KARACHI:

Following the directives of a sessions court, a judicial magistrate raided the Model Colony police station and rescued a man who was in illegal detention for the past few days.

The XII judicial magistrate, east, Muhammad Suleman, raided the police station and released Samiuddin Jamilee after police failed to produce any documents that could justify his detention.

The magistrate submitted his report before the judge stating that “police could not produce any entry or criminal record of the detainee”. Model Colony SHO, the detainee and the petitioner, Jamilee’s wife, were ordered to appear before the court along with the records on Thursday.

Jamilee’s wife had filed a habeas corpus application under Section 491 of the criminal procedure code against the Rangers director general, Rangers incharge at Moinabad Extension and Model Colony SHO on Wednesday.

The petitioner stated that her husband was arrested without any warrant and was illegally detained at Rangers’ station at Moinabad. The SHO clarified that Jamilee was handed over to the police after he was arrested in possession of a 9mm pistol, two magazines, 20 bullets, a Tokka and three daggers during a snap checking.

Jamilee, however, said that the Rangers had apprehended him from his house on November 19. He said he was shifted to Model Colony police station after two days.

The second additional district and sessions judge, East, Nadeem Ahmed Khan, ordered his release after he produced an arms license.
