Doctors cannot attend to emergencies when the government suspends cellular services.
Gynaecologist Dr Nishat Fatima has gone to the Sindh High Court against the authorities over the frequent suspension of cellular services. She could not attend emergency calls whenever the mobile phone service was forced off-air, said the petitioner’s lawyer.
The interior ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and their subordinates were cited as respondents. SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam directed the court office to fix the doctor’s petition on November 22.

Whole system of telecommunications is going down the road because of rulings of PTA and interior ministry . How we will survive with nil communication ? Jobs of thousands of employees are at stake . what do you expect when they will lose their job ? more terrorism ? What is wrong with our leaders !
Thumbs up to the doctor!
@ salman - yes there were but the mortality rate was also much higher which in part has come down due to better communications. Oh and 15 yrs ago we also used to have computers called 386 that came with 14.4kbps external dialup modems. I guess u still use them?
@salman: Lot of people in Pakistan have disconnected their PTCL line since cellphone call rates are so cheap. Also Pagers dont exist anymore which were also being used. Now even if doctors have ptcl line they dont want to sit next to the phone all the time. Doctors can spend time with their family and get emergency there and then. What is wrong with that????
Salman - Of course there were gynaecologists and they had pagers (if you remember those).
@salman there were... but patients relatives werent killing doctors if they could not reach in time.
Arghh were there no gynecologists 15 years back?
