RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD:
The capital’s top cop has directed restrictions on access to the red zone to be placed for the rest of the week.
In a bid to ensure foolproof security and maintain law and order in the capital for the D-8 Conference and Muharram, the Islamabad police have taken various steps to enhance security in the federal capital, especially the Red Zone.
On the directions of Inspector General of the Islamabad Police Bani
Amin Khan, security has been enhanced in the Red Zone.
The entry of vehicles in the Red Zone Area, especially HTVs, is strictly prohibited from November 19-25.
Moreover, access to the area will also be restricted for the general public.
Construction work on different installations in the area will also be on hiatus till November 25.
IGP Amin asked the public to cooperate with the police to ensure foolproof security and regretted any inconvenience faced due to the restrictions on entry in various sensitive areas.
In Rawalpindi, the city police carried out a flag march on different roads of the city on Monday in a bid to keep up security measures during Muharram.
Separately, the district government directed the organisers of majalis to ensure they have backup generators to address load shedding issues and asked them to get the generators from the Rawal Town Administration if they do not already have them.
In addition, 36 companies of Army and Rangers will be deployed in Rawalpindi division.
Meanwhile, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, visited different parts of the city and examined the security measures along with heads of city police.
