The Environment Protection Department has appointed Farooq Hameed Sheikh as its new director general. He was appointed from November 13, but took over his official responsibilities from November 16.
Sheikh served as an additional secretary at the Planning and Development Department for three years before joining the EPD.
Former director general Maqsood Ahmad Lak has been transferred and made director general for libraries. Saeed Iqbal Wahla, the late EPD secretary, had issued a show cause notice to Lak over some missing funds and documents around two months ago, said a source in the department. Assistant Director Administration Nazim Maqbool was terminated from service over the same incident, said the source.
Lak refused to comment on the allegations. He said he had wanted to move to another department. He has now taken up the DG office at the Quaid-i-Azam Library at Bagh-i-Jinnah.
