LAHORE:

A two-day training workshop for women parliamentarians on Peace Building and Leadership was organised by Insan Foundation Trust (IFT) in collaboration with Search for Common Ground (SFCG) Pakistan on Monday.

Eighteen members of the provincial assembly, representing PML-N, PPP, PML-Q and other political parties, participated in the workshop.

The training was conducted under the Strengthening Women Parliamentarians in Pakistan for Effective Government project which is aimed at equipping participants with collaborative approaches to problem solving and enabling them to craft effective media messages.

This was the second provincial level training conducted in a series of workshops with MPAs, former district assembly members and aspiring women politicians.

IFT executive director Kishwar Sultana conducted sessions related to advocacy, leadership qualities, consensus building, problem solving and decision making styles. IFT project manager Kashif Javed conducted sessions on effective media messaging.

“At both national and provincial levels, women leaders are on the frontlines of an ongoing national process of strengthening democratic structures for creating a peaceful Pakistan,” said SFCG Pakistan country director Ammara Durrani.

IFT and SFCG Pakistan have jointly conducted four workshops for women leaders in Punjab and Sindh. The trainings, they hope, will lead to the holding of a National Summit and Leadership Forum to provide an opportunity for the participants to unite on a single platform for collaborative action on effective and peaceful governance.

Founded in 1982, SFCG is an international non-profit organisation working around the world to transform the way the world deals with conflict--away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving.
