LAHORE:

A resource centre funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was inaugurated here at the Forman Christian College Centre for Public Policy and Governance here on Monday.

The Rs22.8 million centre will promote empirical research in Pakistan, said USAID Mission Director for the Punjab Jeffrey N Bakken at the inauguration ceremony. The centre would provide students, researchers and policymakers with literature, data and training facilities to pave the way for informed decision making at all levels, he said.

USAID’s FIRMS Project Chief of Party Donald Hart and FCC’s Director of the Centre for Public Policy and Governance Dr Shafqat Saeed signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop ‘Vision 2035’ for Lahore. The collaboration aims to provide a framework on policy and institutional and regulatory reforms which would help the Punjab’s policymakers establish efficient systems conducive to economic advancement.

Bakken emphasised US support for improving the policy and decision-making processes in the Punjab. He said the establishment of the resource centre “is a step in the right direction for creating favourable conditions for research, policy formulation and development in Pakistan.”
