For sustainability: 30 A-level students join environmental walk

LAHORE:

As many as 30 students of Aitchison College, Beaconhouse School and LACAS participated in a walk arranged by the WWF-Pakistan from the Beaconhouse A-Level Campus Gulberg (ALGC) to Liberty Park. They discussed park management issues and the need to use public transport and walking instead of using private cars to commute.

WWF-Pakistan Policy Manager Ali Hasnain Sayed coordinated the walk and encouraged the students to check the environmental sustainability of the park. Sayed said the students were divided into three groups. They studied bird and tree species, water management and park management. The groups then discussed their observations and the need to allocate more green spaces, Sayed added.

The students agreed that the city should have more parks. The students also learned about not littering the park.

Hussain said the students agreed that not everything can be blamed on the government. “The students said that people should start walking short distances to help reduce air and noise pollution,” he said.

The walk was organised by Salman Qadeer of LACAS and Faisal Saeed of Beaconhouse.
