The Panjgur Police Station Officer Jahangir Baloch told The Express Tribune that Rehmatullah Abid was sitting in a shop when unknown armed men, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him. Abid was killed on the spot.
Police rushed to the crime scene and cordoned off the area. The deceased was shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.
Sources within Abid’s family told The Express Tribune that the journalist had no enmity with anyone.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing as yet.
“We have not registered a case,” Baloch said, adding that police was investigating the incident.
Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Khan Raisani condemned the killing.
In a condolence statement, Raisani said that there were certain elements targeting the ordinary people especially the journalists in order to destabilise Balochistan and to stop the journalists from performing their duties.
