KARACHI: Several suspects were arrested by security agencies during targeted operations in Karachi, media reports stated on Friday. The operation is still underway to round up suspects from across the city.
Police conducted a search operation in Darpan Bazaar and Ghausia Colony areas in Jamshed Quarters and arrested 20 suspects and seized weapons from their possession. Rangers raided the Gulberg area and arrested eight suspects.
A report published today in Daily Express revealed that the government was planning on launching an operation on a large-scale, keeping in view the current situation of the metropolis.
The report further stated that the operation will have complete support from the army.
Daily Express quoted sources as saying that the step was taken to curb the increasing number of incidents of violence including targeted killings, abductions and abandoning of bodies in gunny bags.
However, it was not yet decided if the operation will be launched before or after Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram.
During the first phase, the operation will be mapped out according to the information gathered by the Army’s intelligence wing. However, the government wishes and is trying to not let the operation be labeled as a military offensive.
The police and Rangers platoons tasked to carry out the operation will be equipped with latest weapon and cars in order to face any crucial situation during the operation.
The operation will be indiscriminate and free of any political pressures.
All big and small areas of the city are reported to be covered in the operation.

So the government and the army have woken up finally? Why did you let 4000+ people die in the first place? Shame! The operation should have been launched long ago.
An impartial Army Operation is the ONLY solution to Karachi's mess. All 3 ruling coalition partners PPP+MQM+ANP have been using ethnic cards, all 3 of them have been trained in India (Al-Zulfiqar of PPP, MQM Bhai's notorious speech in India in 2004, Ghaffar Khan known as Sarhadi Gandhi) and they have their armed terrorist gangs involved in extortions, killings etc. The entire provincial machinery has been badly politicised. Police is meant only to protect & escort the corrupt VIPs. Army Operation is indispensable in Karachi before its too late!!!
All feudal lords, taliban and so called democratic parties are against MQM because they are scared if MQM win this coming election they could developed the whole karachi and pakistan like they did in 2002-2007. @Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: Law enforcement still do some job, there themselves are victims and quiet often risk and gave their lives to save innocents. It is courts that let these terrorist go, and it is hard to believe that cases are ill prepared in each and every case, in which case they should lock up the prosecutor. Imgine the feelings of the arresting officers when these terrorists in picture will be released by courts??
I totally agree but like always why the Element of surprise is missing and it appears that the administration wants to give ample time to the criminals to escape and hide .I feel the press also has to take responsibility and not to share this information .In some cases the news channels even share how many CCTV cameras would be used and locations as well .This critical information should be kept confidential .
Our Law enforcing agencies are completely capable of handling these elements provided the Government backs them up .Everyone talks about the Rights of criminals but what about the Rights of innocent people killed daily in large numbers .
Steps like banning Motor bike riding and cell phone services are band aid solutions not the long term solutions .
I am sure you guys couldn't agree more with me on the fact that Karachi has been hijacked by two political groups who's target killers will be packing up by now and going underground in Peshawar and South Africa. What the army needs to do is to gain solid intelligence information and proofs about these two political parties and then raid their headquarters - in Banaras and Azizabad.
