Harassment plea: CCPO told to take action against cop for misleading court

LAHORE:

Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tariq Mehmood Zargham has directed the city’s police chief to take departmental action against the official in charge of the Firdaus Market police post for misleading the court.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by Saima Shehzadi against her ex-husband Syed Jawahir Zaheer for allegedly threatening to throw acid on her and to kill her. The Firdaus Market police official allegedly lied about a compromise between the two. Shehzadi said in her petition that Zaheer, a federal government employee, had been threatening her after she got a divorce through a family court. He had said he would throw acid on her and kill her. She said she had asked the station house officer concerned to register a case, but he refused. She had filed a petition and a court directed the SHO to register the case.

Shehzadi said she then filed another petition through Advocate Mohammad Asif Chattha seeking compliance with the court order, upon which the official in charge of the Firdaus Market police post was summoned. He told the court that the two parties had compromised so there was no need for a case.

However, the petitioner told the court on Wednesday that there had been no such compromise. The judge then directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to look into the matter and take departmental action against the officer for misleading the court.
