Mother and child’s health: Health Week to begin on Nov 15

1,692 lady health workers will administer vaccines in door-to-door visits.

As many as 1,692 lady health workers have been charged with administering vaccines during the mother-and-child health week in the district, Executive District Officer Dr Azhar Mehmood Bhatti said on Tuesday.


Briefing the reporters about the arrangements in this regard, Dr Bhatti said these lady health workers would make door-to-door visits to ensure that no mother or child was left out in the campaign.

The EDO also announced that a Health Mela would be organised in the district from November 15 to November 21. It will be inaugurated by Health Secretary Capt Arif Nadeem and Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique.

=The inauguration ceremony would be held at the Ferozewala basic health unit.

Bhatti said that mothers and the children will also be administered an anti-worm vaccine. Pregnant women will be given a free ultrasound examination. He said gynaecologists and paediatricians will be available for consultation.

He said duty officials had been directed to send a daily report to the district coordination officer.

He said that polio, hepatitis and other Extended Programme Immunisation (EPI) vaccines would also be administered during the health week.

The health week would also include awareness lectures by Population Department Provincial Coordinator Dr Akhtar Rasheed.

Earlier, addressing a seminar, District Coordination Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Amin urged the doctors and the Health Department, basic health unit and rural health centre officials to make the health week a success.

He said injections and medicines had been stocked for Health Mela.

“Most people in the cities now have awareness. But work needs to be done to create awareness in the villages and rural areas,” he said.

District Health Officer Dr Mah Jabeen, Deputy District Officer Dr Murtaza and World Health Organisation representative Dr Papa Texan were also present.
