KARACHI:

Upset that police officials are not performing their duties in a professional manner, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah suspended nearly half a dozen officers on Sunday.

The chief minister paid surprise visits to numerous police stations and was also disappointed to find that police and Rangers personnel were not doing their patrolling and snap checking duties at roundabouts and other public locations.

Shah visited police stations in Lasbela, Nazimabad, Hyderi, Sakhi Hassan, Five Star Chowrangi, Nagin Chowrangi, Buffer Zone, North Karachi, Garden, M A Jinnah Road, Katti Pahari, Mithadar, Kharadar and Preedy Street. Mithadar SHO and other policemen at Mithadar and Preedy police stations were suspended because they had not reported to work when Shah was doing his rounds. The chief minister was also upset over the apparent absence of traffic police personnel on major arteries in the city, and gave suspension orders for district central traffic SHO.
