A six-year-old bled to death after he was wounded by a bullet meant for his father in a suburban village at a wedding ceremony on Friday night.
Saif was shot in the thigh and died of excessive bleeding before he could be taken to hospital from his village, Mujahid Siyal.
According to the information provided by Saif’s family and the police, when the boy’s father Mian Khan stopped a man from celebratory firing, he shot at him.
The alleged killer, Shamsher Abbas had come to attend a poetry competition at Saif’s house, organised in celebration of a relative’s wedding.
When he started firing his 30-bore pistol, Khan asked him to stop, which infuriated him.
Abbas fired at Khan but hit his son Saif, said Sub-Inspector Allah Yar, the investigation officer.
The official said the boy died of excessive bleeding as it took an hour to take him to District Headquarter Hospital Rawalpindi.
Allah Yar said a murder case had been registered against Abbas who had managed to escaped.
Meanwhile, City police claimed in a press release that 10 men were arrested for violating the Marriage Ordinance and display of fireworks at weddings.
