A bloody day for commuters

More than 10 people were injured and at least one young boy killed in separate road accidents around the city.

ISLAMABAD: More than 10 people were injured and at least one young boy killed in separate road accidents around the city on Friday. Twenty-year-old Fahad Ahmad of Rawalpindi lost control of his motorbike and fell on the road near New Katarian before he was run over by a speeding truck. His co-rider also suffered injuries.

Ahmad was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck escaped from the scene, police said. The Industrial area police registered a case against the unknown truck driver and handed Ahmed’s body over to his family after the post mortem.

In another fatal road accident near Mizail Chowk on the Islamabad Expressway early Friday morning, a 4X4 Van belonging to the office of a United Nations crashed into two cabs parked by the roadside. Three passengers of the van and a cab driver were injured. Police said the accident took place due to bad weather conditions as it was raining in Islamabad at the time. None of the parties involved wanted police action and settled the matter out of court.

Four members of a family received serious injuries in an accident near Fazayia chowk. According to witnesses, two women, two children and a man were all sitting on one motorbike. When they tried to take a sharp turn on Islamabad Expressway, three cars behind them collided into one another.

The motorbike also fell down inflicting serious injuries on the woman and children.

Police said the motorbike rider was to blame since he was overloading and dangerously swerving his bike, confusing other drivers. The injured were shifted to Pims.

Muhammad Muzamil, a labourer was hit by a speeding car near Faisal Avenue Bridge while trying to cross the road. Muzamil received an injury to the head and was unable to speak. He was shifted to Pims, where doctors said he was out of danger. The driver of the car had shifted him to the hospital in his own vehicle. His vehicle was seized by the police, even though they said it was not his fault.
