Sectarian murders continue for third day

Two Shia, a Tableeghi Jamaat member among 10 shot dead.

As the city was reeling from the attack on the Rangers Residential Complex early in the morning which killed at least three personnel, 10 more people were shot dead in the city in separate incidents of target killings on Thursday.  


With sectarian violence continuing for the third consecutive day, two men belonging to the Shia sect, 45-year-old Syed Nisar Mehdi and his 25-year-old nephew Syed Najam Abbas, were gunned down in Orangi Town. SHO Ashfaq Baloch said that the deceased lived in Orangi Town and used to work at a garment factory in SITE. The two were reportedly targeted while on their way to work by two men. The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

An owner of a pet shop was gunned down in Gulshan-e-Bihar, Orangi Town. Deceased was identified as 35-year-old Naseem Afzal. Police officials said Afzal was member of the Tableeghi Jamaat and initial investigation suggests that he was killed over sectarian basis.

A police head constable, 50-year-old Mohammad Nazeer, was gunned down when a police mobile came under attack in Sohrab Goth. DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the deceased was posted at  Sohrab Goth police station and was busy in monitoring the deployment of policemen at banks in the area when armed men attacked the police mobile. He was shot at least seven times and died on the spot.

Ahmed shah, son of Jan Mohammad, was found dead in Sikander Goth. According to police, the victim was kidnapped and shot multiple times. Police suspect that the incident took place over personal enmity.

A property agent, 40-year-old Wajiullah, was shot dead in Khairabad area within the limits of Manghopir police station. DSP Najamul Hassan said that the deceased was shot at least ten time and suspected that the killing was over some monetary dispute.

Separately, a 36-year-old shopkeeper, Zahir Shah, was gunned down in Lal Mohammad Goth. The deceased reportedly worked at an electronic shop as a salesman.

In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, an alleged member of a Lyari gang was gunned down at Dalmia. DSP Nasir Lodhi said that deceased, 27-year-old Sanaullah Baloch, had a criminal record with over half dozen cases registered against him.

Thirty-two-year old Sikander, security guard at a private company, was shot dead in Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad while standing outside his home. Police said that he was killed over personal enmity. Another security guard of a private garment factory was gunned down in Rasheedabad within SITE B Section police station. Deceased was identified as 40-year-old Badshah Khan.

Police said that the deceased was on way to work after withdrawing cash from a bank when he tried to resist a robbery and was shot dead.
