KARACHI: In a positive development, the Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) has managed to attract eight foreign teams to take part in a two-day tournament that gets underway today.

The two-day tournament, part of the International Sports Festival taking place in Pakistan, will comprise 12 teams including four local outfits. The teams have been divided into four pools and will play a total of 24 games with the final on November 9. Apart from the contest, an exhibition match between Pakistan and International XI will be played on November 10.

A PRU official said the event will boost the sport in Pakistan.

“The presence of teams, especially from rugby power station New Zealand, is a good sign,” said the official. “Apart from creating a soft image of our country, it will give our youngsters valuable experience.”
