MQM chief Altaf Hussain had called on Pakistanis in his speech on October 14 to declare whether they wanted to live in a Pakistan run by the Taliban or the one that the Quaid-e-Azam had envisioned.
The decision of postponement was taken during an emergency meeting of the party called in London and Karachi simultaneously. In London, the meeting was presided by Hussain, while back in Karachi, the meeting was held by MQM’s Coordination Committee.
The MQM cited an international defence exhibition underway in Karachi as the reason for deferring the referendum.
According to the Coordination Committee, DG Rangers Rizwan Akhtar had requested the Governor of Sindh to postpone the referendum.
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan had earlier threatened the MQM after it announced that it will hold the referendum.
On Monday, a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court against the MQM’s referendum scheduled to be held on November 8. The respondents include the National Assembly speaker, Senate chairperson, Hussain and MQM Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar. The Sindh High Court’s division bench is expected to take up the petition on November 7.

@poleturtle: India is formed from 30 different countries who were all joined due to a historical accident.
@poleturtle: Just keep it to yourself friend. We heard you how you feel about yourself. A good job and a decent work is always there if you get up, look hard & ready to work. That's how most are happy in Pakistan. Look around and you will see lot of them. Look for misery and you will only see that and nothing else!
For God's sake, please don't drag the founder of pakistan's name for cheap and dirty politics and on such trivial issues. The other day, poor guy (QA)'s name was also dragged to say he belonged to the shia sect.
@mustafa: What Mr. tariq wrote is true. Samaa TV later had to remove the poll.
"Already there is referendum going on at sama tv website.and it ,d be an eye opener for MQM That how deeply they r hated across pakistan.already 92% people voted for taliban ,s pakistan."
Please don't mislead people! There is no such thing on Samaa website
The brain receptors of this politicians are not funcioning properly.! He can be treated with a standard procedure. Why confront those who have defeated the lion heart Iglez, the cold blooded Russians and last but not least the the afro American and Anglo Indian soldiers of the Brits, and the riff raffs of the NATO contingent. I would take talibans threats seriously and demonstrate that the majority of Pakistanis are part Of Ummah.

PS ET, please stop sensor system, unless your staff wants a sensor system with the change of the Govt.?
I am disappointed. However, I will be happy if they can eliminate talibans and terrorists by any means.
oh yeah I didn't know london was part of pakistan
So "Drama" ended as quickly as it was created. Before referendum, it would be great, if MQM respects SC's decision to end militant wing, and No-Go areas in Karachi and return absconders who were released in Mushraf era. Gerrymandering done in Karachi during Mushraf era should also be cancelled as per SC orders and ECP should take notice of it.
State must make it clear that use of violence either by Taliban and/or by any party for vested interests is abhorring and condemnable.
After due consideration it has been postponed. Many reasons came im the way which compelled emergency meeting memebers to postpone holding referendum.
There were chances of more unrest in the already fragile condition of the city.On the other hand ,huge fund required for the purpose.Lack of fund became a reason with other reasons.
\Ther is also possibility that central government did not agree on the referendum option. local administration requested for its postponment with the contention that international defence exhibition underway in Karachi as the reason for deferring the referendum.
As for as referendum's result is concerned,it would have never been in favoure of militancy or killing of innocent people and brutal attack as committed in case of Malala who has become Icon of terrorists's brutality.
I don't know the people are being fooled by MQM. They should use their head, what kind of refrendum their doing. It is stupidity.
New Referendum:
Question 1: Qaud-e-Azam's Pakistan or Taliban's?
Question 2: Quad-e-Azam's Pakistan or Ajmal Pahari, Javed Langra, Farooq Dada, Saleem TT, Rashid Chamber's Pakistan?
Leader sitting in UK and asking people of Pakistan to do referendum, what's wrong with MQM people who are blind in supporting foreign leadership.
The 'CONSTITUTIONAL-AWARENESS' of the Citizens of Pakistan is shamefully minimal, if at all. Why are they ever doubting that it is a 'SHARIAH-BASED' ISLAMIC CONSTITUTION. Lets start by introducing The Preamble of The Constitution of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan in our own homes and families for starters, to put an end to all this unwanted 'FITNA' that this 'ignorance' is generating in our Nation. Here's an excerpt from the The Constitution Preamble which needs to be circulated:
“Whereas sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah alone, and the authority to be exercised by the people of Pakistan within the limits prescribed by Him is a sacred trust; And whereas it is the will of the people of Pakistan to establish an order :- Wherein the State shall exercise its powers and authority through the chosen representatives of the people; Wherein the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance and social justice, as enunciated by Islam, shall be fully observed; Wherein the Muslims shall be enabled to order their lives in the individual and collective spheres in accordance with the teachings and requirements of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran and Sunnah”;
PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!
Dear Altaf Hussain: Please do proceed with your proposed referendum. It is the need of the hour. The people who are opposing your proposed referendum actually support Taliban's Pakistan, and are very uneasy about your promotion of Quaid-e-Azam's Pakistan. They are bitter because they know that you are exposing them. Please keep putting these Taliban supporters under difficult situations.
We surely want Quaid ka Pakistan !!! but this has yet to be decided that which Quaid,s Pakistan ?? Quaid e Azam or Quaid e Tehreek ??
I still think its a valid question to ask, Talibans vision, or Quad's vision? What do people REALLY want?
Who will define Quaid's pakistan ? Secular? ISlamic ? Theocratic ? This itself evokes lots of debate on the views of Quaid. So such a referendum will be irrelevant.
We want MQM-free Pakistan.
MQM listen Army
Pakistan was a mistake in the first place. Half already broken and gone, the other half blundering into oblivion !!
@nak: Altaf bhai has taken your comments very seriously and directed all MQM workers to make London a peaceful and load shedding free
We don't want Talibanistan We need & want Martial Law
We dont want TTP pakistan
Also, if you want secularism, go back to India
That's a true example set by MQM of state within a state..shame on all champions of democracy
Doesn't suit you being a dual national ,you can't be trusted...
So whats the new date? Or was it just a election tactic ? I was almoat thinking to vote again. For MQM. Now i would not unless this referendum takes place.
Already there is referendum going on at sama tv website.and it ,d be an eye opener for MQM That how deeply they r hated across pakistan.already 92% people voted for taliban ,s pakistan.
WE don't want MQM's Pakistan!!!
Air has left the tire.
Altaf bhai, please enough is enough, everyone knows who is killing people of karachi since 80s.
How about any referendum on Karachi violence.
Jinnah did not want Pakistan divided based on race, creed etc either. Would Quaid would have liked a plitical party collecting protection money from people, their leader too afraid to come to the country when his own party is in power? This is like pot calling kettle black.
postponed for ever plssssssssss you have no right to play with sentiments of true pakistanis
Dear Altaf sahab.your effort for this country is very appreciative, but kindly consider karachi-hits too they are suffering lot from couples of months, do any thing for us.
