SHC orders removal of debris from street near Imam Bargah

Sindh High Court suggests that a blockage caused by debris could be used for terrorist activity during Muharram.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the removal of an illegally created blockade on a public street, which could be used for possible terrorist activity during the holy month of Muharram.

Irfan Aziz, a resident of Soldier Bazaar, had moved the high court saying that no high-rise constructions was allowed to be constructed in the immediate vicinity of the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

However, he petitioned that Iftikharul Hasan Siddiqui, a resident of the locality, was constructing a high-rise building on his plot No JM 28. During the construction, Aziz contended that Siddiqui had thrown construction material and other debri  on the street adjoining an Imam Bargah.

Aziz said the street’s closure could help the terrorists to carry out any criminal activity during the month of Muharram and prayed to the court to order the removal of it.

On Monday, Justice Maqbool Baqir, who headed the division bench hearing the case, ordered the private respondent to remove all material that may be causing blockages or inconveniences in the area.

Issuing notice to respondents and provincial law officers for November 15, the judges also ordered that no construction be carried out that violates the relevant laws.
