Freedom of Information: New law hangs on approval of bill says K-P govt

The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) will promulgate the freedom of information law only after the federal government repeals the Freedom of Information Act 2002 and approves the Freedom of Information Bill 2008, said a statement issued by the K-P Information Ministry on Monday.

The ministry stated that this has already been communicated to the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) in a letter by the K-P Chief Secretary.

The ministry states that the main hurdle in promulgation of the said law in K-P is the delay in enactment of the Freedom of Information Bill 2008, which is being examined by a committee of the National Assembly.
