“If our government is open to celebrating Eid when it occurs in Saudia Arabia, they should also accept monarchy in the country like the Saudis,” Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman said on Monday.
He was addressing a Milad-i-Mustafa conference at the Jamia Faridia Faizul Islam.
He said that 90 per cent of the people followed the decisions of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee.
Despite the fact, he said, the committee did not enjoy the autonomy that it required.
He said a Charter of Ahle Sunnat must be agreed upon the way the Charter of Democracy was.
Mufti Rehman said despite Pakistan’s support for eradication of terrorism and extremism in this region, the international community continued to associate her with it.
Former National Assembly member Allama Hamid Saeed Kazmi said the people who attacked him were involved in corrupt practices in management of Hajj services.
He said instead of celebrating Eid on the same day as the Saudis as had been proposed recently, the government should focus on improving access to latest technology.
Talking about allocation of funds for his constituency when he was an MNA, Kazmi said former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had not released funds for him as Gilani feared that Kazmi’s popularity would surpass his own.
He said, “If the Ahle Sunnat unite on a platform, I will leave the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and join it. However, this time I will run on a PPP ticket.”
He said Ahle Sunnat had always preached a message of peace and were not involved in any terrorist activity.
He said terrorist attacks had targeted shrines but no night clubs or pubs because the preachers of Islam denounced violence. He said terrorists were now also targetting his life.
