Former ambassador Saad Khairi passes away

Pakistan mourns the loss of a former ambassador and an established writer.

Pakistan’s former Ambassador and writer Saad Rashidul Khairi passed away in Karachi on Thursday. Grandson of writer and publisher Rashidul Khairi, his parents Raziqul Khairi and Khatoon Akram were also writers.


He was born in Delhi on November 5, 1923. After working as a reporter for The Sind Observer and The Daily Gazette, Khairi joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1948. He served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Sudan, Ethiopia, Argentina, Chile, Uraguay and Peru. After retiring from government service, he was the managing editor of the English daily, The Saudi Gazettte, in Saudi Arabia. Khairi authored two books - Jinnah Reinterpreted and Aap Beeti Jug Beeti. He is survived by his wife and three children. The burial is on Friday.
