Targeted attack: 3 ANP activists shot dead in Sherpao Colony

KARACHI: Three Awami National Party activists were shot dead outside the party’s office in Sherpao Colony late on Wednesday. Police said that four other activists were also injured during the attack.

The deceased were identified as Saleem Khan, Abid Khan, Sajid and the injured as Abul Razzaq, Fahim, Niaz Yosufzai and Arif.

While quoting eyewitness accounts, SHO Amanullah Marwat said that at least six armed men on three motorbikes came close to the victims and opened indiscriminate fire. All the victims were taken to the nearest private hospital, where Saleem, Sajid and Abid succumbed to injuries.

The bodies and the injured were later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.

Marwat said that the culprits had used 9mm pistols in the attack, and that each of them had been shot multiple times. Police are investigating if elements from the Taliban were behind the incident.

Business activities were suspended in the area after the attack and extra contingents of law enforcers were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

An ANP spokesperson condemned the attack on the party’s activist and demanded that the government arrest the culprits. He added that Saleem Khan was the president of ANP’s Sherpao Colony chapter.

Niaz Khan, who was injured during the attack, works as the coordinator of ANP MPA Ameer Nawab Khan.
