Asia Kabaddi Cup to get underway today

Pakistan coach aims to promote traditional circle kabaddi.

KARACHI: Pakistan coach Tahir Waheed has said that the second Asia Kabaddi Cup that gets underway in Lahore today will help promote the traditional circle kabaddi which he reckons is the genuine spirit of the game.

“There is a need to promote circle kabaddi because it is the best form and hopefully the Asia Cup will help other countries get its feel,” Waheed told The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, he was hopeful of Pakistan’s chances in the tournament, in which India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Afghanistan, Indonesia and Nepal are the other participants.

“We’ve trained really hard for this event. I’m hoping we’ll get a good start to get on track in claiming the title at home.”

Meanwhile, in a new development, the federation is planning to host an exhibition match before the official kick-off of the event between an Asian team and Pakistan.

“We’ll try and merge players from different countries for a peace match as it is a significant step for the sports fraternity in Lahore,” said PKF Secretary Mohammad Sarwar.
