BAHAWALPUR: At least 24 people were killed and eight were critically injured when a wagon and truck collided near Link Road in Bahawalpur, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The wagon, en route to Ahmedpur Sharkia from Bahawalpur, was carrying excess passengers which caused the driver to lose control and collide with a truck while turning from Link Road onto the bypass.

According to witnesses, the rescue teams reached late, while the injured were shifted to the Victoria hospital in Bahawalpur.

Women and children were among those killed and the death toll is expected to rise.

Earlier, three seminary students were killed and 13 were injured when a van overturned after crashing into a tree near the Nikah Pah village on GT Road, some five kilometres away from Haripur.
