LAHORE: Many citizens of Lahore celebrated Eid with excessive consumption, with dozens ending up in hospital with alcohol poisoning, and dozens with acid peptic disease caused by eating too much red meat. Mayo Hospital received 32 patients who lost consciousness after drinking too much alcohol, said a doctor who served at the emergency ward on Saturday and Sunday. “None of them is critical. Most of those who were brought in have been discharged,” he said. Twenty patients were brought in with similar symptoms to Lahore General Hospital, 18 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 17 to Jinnah Hospital and 12 to Services Hospital. Dozens were also brought to the hospitals with acid peptic disease. “Most of them ate excessively on Eid. Red meat especially causes APD,” said Pakistan Medical Society President Dr Masood Sheikh. A doctor who served at the LGH emergency ward said several patients with cardiac or liver diseases were also brought to the hospital because they ate too much red meat over the holidays.
