A heavy contingent of 2200 policemen has been deployed in the city to prevent any attacks on Eidul Azha.

Four policemen will be deployed outside every mosque as well as other places where Eid congregations will take place. “Our region is frequently hit by terrorism, so we have to be alert all the time, especially on special occasions,” said SSP Operations Imran Shahid while talking to The Express Tribune.

He said that they have positioned all police officials available; adding that four riders would be deployed in front of every eidgah (prayer place) and police mobiles will remain on patrol in their respective areas.

The police will not have a holiday on Eid as they will be called for their duty. “Around 1,000 extra police men have been deployed in the city alone while in the rural areas 600 police men have been deployed,” said Shahid.

“Policemen in plain clothes will be on high alert,” he added, saying that his force was vigilant to thwart any untoward incident.

A police official told The Express Tribune that more policemen have been sent from Police Lines to the city police in addition to the police station’s own contingents. In some areas volunteer forces will also assist them.
