Sindh governor orders issuance of arms licences to business community
The governor ordered Inspector General (IG) Sindh and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi to immediately procure the items, following a demand by the respective stakeholders of the business community.
The governor also instructed concerned officials to depute additional 500 police personnel in the old city and industrial areas to combat criminals.
He also ordered the disbursement of extra mobile vans and motorcycles, and to establish police pickets on entry and exit points of markets and industrial areas.
Following a marathon meeting with stakeholders led by the Acting President Federation of Pakistan Chambers and Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Haroon Rashid and leader of the business community S M Muneer at the Governor House, Ishratul Ebad ordered the establishment community policing in all commercial and industrial districts with the collaboration of Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).
He directed the Home Secretary to issue arms licence to the members of business community in order to combat with the criminals associated with the bhatta mafia.
CPLC informed the participants of the meeting, that one mobile phone locator will be provided in November, through which phone calls of criminals will be monitored.
Muneer and Mian Zahid Hussain demanded the Governor to establish an IT Experts Cell which should extended access to phone call data of cellular service companies.
Ishtratul Ebad intimated high officials present at the meeting to give him a follow-up by November 15. He warned the concerned officials that if his instructions were not abided by, then they will be held responsible.
The governor expressed his concerns over the worsening law and order situation and assured the stakeholders that their grievances will be addressed without any further delay.
An enraged Muneer said that the business community cannot bear the ordeal any further and numerous entrepreneurs are considering wrapping up their trade.
Rashid said that if the situation does not improve the stakeholders will be compelled to go on strike on November 8, 2012.

Totally agree with you Independent (London). Generally speaking it should be not even be a CM, these decisions are to be made by a independent Municipal government. CMs should not act as Mayors of provincial capitals or large cities(in both cases,Punjab and Sindh).
It is amazing only 9 comments posted as yet. I think the reason is that the commentators are either writing against the governor which this free and independent paper has no guts to publish or the people are so scared not to write anything against this permanent governor of the province.
Pakistan is unique country where the governor of Sindh province is engaged in unconstitutional activities by taking administration of the province into his hands. But then why not? It is due to Asif Zardari who is himself engaged in unconstitutional activities by taking executive decisions from the President House. The other thing is that Asif Zardari is possessed by 'reconciliation' policy to please his best friend Altaf Hussain.
Look at Punjab and KPK where governors do not dare to meddle their CM's affairs. Would Mr Khosa dare to summon officials of the province and order them to do what he would want. Never.
Does Sindh has an elected Parliment? Does Sindh has a CM? Why the governer is always trying to run the province?
It shows utter failure of Sindh government. Shameful decision to distribute more licences to kill.
Every body should be allowed to possess guns, only then the crime rate will go down. In USA inspite of best police force every citizen has the right to possess arms.

Does the Governor think that business community is unarmed?
There is a law to be passed by the Sindh Assembly that business community should be allowed to shoot the criminals at when they receive a extortion chit (parchi) by any group or individual and there will be no FIR registered in the Police Station for killing an extortionist.
Though it is the duty of law enforcement personnel but now this job will be done by the business community for the sake of eliminating the culprits from the society.
Instead of cracking down on the criminal element the government resorts to window dressing by giving out more guns thereby exacerbating the situation.
