“Three UK-based pugilists will join us,” PBF Secretary Akram Khan told The Express Tribune. “Haider Ali will join the seniors, while two other boxers including Ali’s younger brother and Yasir Iqbal will be added to the 91-kg event in the U18 category.”
Akram added that Haroon Khan, younger brother of UK boxer Amir Khan, will not be coming to Pakistan after Mohammad Waseem was chosen over him in the 52-kg category owing to his performance at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Boxing Tournament.
The secretary said the Pakistan Sports Board had also granted permission to invite 40 boxers instead of the initial 25.
“We’ve conveyed to all the boxers that they’ll need to take part in national tournaments if they’re serious in representing Pakistan. They won’t be allowed to represent Pakistan for their personal ambitions.”
