Cellular services are most likely to be suspended on Eidul Azha in sensitive areas of the country, including Karachi, Lahore, some areas of Balochistan, the tribal areas and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, an interior ministry official told The Express Tribune on Tuesday.

The suspension will begin Friday night and will continue till Saturday, the official said.

The Government of Sindh, issued a notificiation on Tuesday, saying that it will be a public holiday from October 26 to 29, 2012 for all its employees and workers in the province.

On Eidul Fitr this year, cellular services were suspended for one day across the country causing inconvenience to mobile phone users.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik had said that the services were suspended to avert untoward terrorist incidents in the country.

Cell phone services were also blocked in as many as 15 urban centres of the country on account of Ishq-e-Rasool (pbuh) Day which caused the cellular operators an estimated loss of Rs600 million.
