SUKKUR: A protest was held by Jodh clan members on Monday at Shah Hussain bypass against the killing of three people in Khadim Kharal village in Khairpur.

The protesters, led by  Peeral Jodh and Ghulam Qadir Jodh, chanted slogans against police and claimed that no arrests had been made for the murder of Peeral’s wife, Anwar Khatoon, his son Haji Khan Jodh, 25, and his daughter, Hajani Jodh, 20, on Sunday.

Peeral suspected that Khadim Kharal, MPA Naeem Kharal’s estate manager, was behind the murders. The protesters demanded that the police arrest Khadim. “Police are not willing to register a case against Khadim because of his ties with the Naeem,” said Peeral.

The Gullo Sial police station SHO, Abdul Kareem Maitlo, told The Express Tribune that Peeral’s daughters Shaista and Hajani were married to Khadim’s nephews, Naseem Kharal and Waseem Kharal. He added that around six months ago, Shaista was sent back to her house after being labeled as kari by her husband and fearing that she would be killed, she took refuge in the Darul Amman after seeking permission from a court. These circumstances, however, intensified the relations between the Jodhs and Kharals, with the Jodhs running back and forth to resolve the issue.

According to sources, Khadim finally reached out to the Jodhs on Saturday to resolve the dispute. The next day, however, Khadim demanded that Anwar Khatoon call Shaista back in order to resolve the matter, but when she refused, he allegedly opened fire on all three.
