Good Governance: Youth leaders’ dialogue organised

Resolution calling for the alleviation of poverty through policy reform was passed.

A young leaders’ dialogue was held on Wednesday on the eve of International Day for the Alleviation of Poverty.


The dialogue was organised by GOHER Foundation under its programme, Youth Leadership and Empowerment Centre (YLEC) at the Civil Servants Academy, Bahawalpur. The participants discussed the Crisis of Governance and Poverty. A number of participants presented papers on the topic. Later, a resolution calling for the alleviation of poverty through policy reform was passed.

YLEC Coordinator Naima Khan said the unequal distribution of wealth, unemployment, over-population and corruption system were the main causes of poverty.

YLEC Programme Coordinator Rizwan Sadiq said no country had been prospers without the rule of law. Mujahid Latif, the media and public relations coordinator at the YLEC, analysed various models for the eradication of poverty and how these could be applied to Pakistan. He said comprehensive reforms were required in the political and agricultural sub-systems.

Irtaza Malik, a reporter, said the youth should raise their voice against the prevailing corruption, bad governance and poverty. Kamran Bashir, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) Bahawalpur general secretary, said only visionary leadership could solve the crisis of governance.
