Pakistan managed a solitary win in Sri Lanka and the team’s show with the bat remained a huge worry for captain Sana Mir. Keeping that in mind, the team management has scheduled extensive batting drills at the training camp currently underway in Muridke.
The Asia Cup, featuring eight teams, will be played in Guangzhou from October 24 to 31. Pakistan are placed in Group A with India besides Thailand and Hong Kong. Group B comprises Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and China. Pakistan team coach Mohtashem Rasheed said the event will help the players improve.
“We have a promising side but it needs improvement with the bat,” Rasheed told The Express Tribune. “Our batters have adjusted well in the 50-over format but the players find it rather hard in the Twenty20s. We hardly crossed the 100-run mark in the World Twenty20. Our players are struggling when they need to accelerate and we’re working on it.”
The coach added different strategies were being worked on to bring improvement.
“Apart from practice matches, the players are given different match situations and are asked to play accordingly. The target is to make the team capable of scoring around 130 to 140. Hopefully, we will achieve the task as all the players are responding positively.”
Meanwhile, Rasheed said he was satisfied with the team’s bowling and fielding performances.
Pakistan are scheduled to leave on October 21, a day after the conclusion of the training camp.
