Shaping up guidelines: Trade policy to be announced before Eid

Government was in talks with the EU for lifting tariff barrier over 75 commodities: Commerce minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Commerce Abbas Khan Afridi on Tuesday said that the new trade policy was in the final stages and will be announced before Eidul Azha. Responding to a question during question hour, he informed the upper house of parliament that the government was in talks with the European Union for lifting tariff barrier over 75 commodities. He said that the government had also held meetings with the US officials for establishment of reconstruction opportunity zones in the federally administered tribal areas and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He said that presently the Pakistani textile and clothing products were facing high tariffs in the US markets as compared to other countries of the region. He said that talks were also underway with the US authorities for getting concessions for Pakistani textile products. He also informed that the textile products in the country were being provided subsidy.
