Federations’ POA opposition intensifies

Provincial associations not in favour of Hasan-led body.

KARACHI: The divide on the implementation of the National Sports Policy has increased as several sports federations and Army unit has decided to oppose the holding of office by Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Gen (retd) Arif Hasan.

In a recent move, even the provincial Olympics associations had decided to go against Hasan as they feel that the POA president should relinquish his post. All the members of these units had also snubbed the general body meeting of POA on Sunday.

“We oppose the self serving interpretation of Olympic Charter by Hasan to suit his personal motives and agenda,” read the joint verdict which was sent to The Express Tribune. The members agreed not to attend any POA meeting presided by Hasan while they also agreed not to respond to any correspondence from POA till Hasan announces disposition.

The meeting’s agenda concluded with “we also unanimously resolve that IOC & OCA be contacted to take account of the negative decisions being taken by Syed Arif Hasan against all the legitimate sports Federations/ Associations who raise voice against his dictatorial rule”.
