SARGODHA:

No action will be taken against retailers and vendors who cooperate with the police and come forward with lists of fraudulent SIMs they have registered. SSP Dr Mohammad Rizwan made the announcement at a press conference on Friday.

Rizwan, however, warned businesses of strict action in case the police discovered they were committing fraud. In the last week, Sargodha police have arrested six men who are accused of registering 250,000 SIMs using CNIC details of citizens without their consent.

Several police officials were given cash and commendation certificates at the press conference. The SSP praised the Mela SHO and other officials for seizing 500 kilogrammes of narcotics after a clash with drug peddlers. Ata Shaheed SHO and officials were awarded cash and certificates for holding off robbers and killing one suspect during a crossfire. SSP Rizwan said that police had been able to curb crime in the division.

Also on the occasion, the Stone Suppliers Association president announced a Rs200,000 award for Ata Shaheed police station officials “in recognition of their excellent performance and bringing down the crime rate in the area”.
