Speaking to the media at the Islamabad airport, Rehman said that sometimes Salala and sometimes Malala were being made the pretext to eliminate a section of society and he condemns that strongly.
Fazlur Rehman was quick to point blame at erroneous policies of the government, which according to Rehman had resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Pakistanis.
Rehman also hit out at some people who were condemning the attack on Malala, saying that the hands of such people were "soaked with blood" since they never condemn when a mosque is bombed.
He added that the attack on the young girl from Swat was condemnable, and termed it as an act of oppression which finds no precedent in Pushtun tradition.

Benazir Bhutto, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and now Malala Yousufzai are all victims of WAR ON TERROR. Thousands of innocent lives have been lost because of this International War of Power Politics. in my opinion this war is the biggest fraud of the century. Malala's case is no more than to pave way for a vigorous military operation in North Waziristan on the instructions of the United States. I advise Pakistani leadership not to be a part of Obama's election campaign as he needs some points to score on our dead bodies. Pakistani Civil & Military leadership is crying for a single Malala's death and are mum on the other thousands of Malala's who lost their lives during this War On Terror. Malala is an innocent girl and was targeted by the same elements who projected her during the last couple of years for their ulterior motives.
we have seeing this Mullah from the childhold that he is always sitting in government and issuing statments on all subjects which fit for his personla gains. Please recover all wealth that he collected and must be fastened before a firing squade in a public place
This man Fazl u Rehman must be hanged publically for he is the worse to be tolerate further for his neferious activities against Islam and peace.
@Jat , At present out entry is not required . Pak army and the govt. Is dealing with the situation . Our and Israeil's entry is also not being prefered and permitted by the world community
Sad he is joking Salala and Malala. From deep inside he knows it is wrong and it is prehistoric justice. Being the coward he is he fails to condemn the perpetrators. In short he and Munawar Hasan are the spokesmen of the devil.
@Saleem: Indeed. The crime is heinous he is so stupid to compare it to drone attacks. In hindsight now Drones seem to be the only solution. Otherwise Benazir's killer The Mehsud would have been alive today. What US should do is issue a list of terrorists eleiminated otherwise the damage would have been so much more.
@Khan
It's interesting to read that at least you know the word "ostrich" so you can read. Reference to couple of questions you raised Malala is a Pakistani first than anything else that's why the whole nation want to catch these savages n punish them. With regard to stone age, stop fooling yourself by blaming others. No one general desired or wanted Pushtun to live in a stone age. Question of religious parties, it's simple they should live n upgrade there religious learnings within the limits of religion n stay away from politics.
No conspiracy theories please! We can and should condemn both the brutal attack on Malala, Shazia and Kainat and the illegal drone attacks. There should be no ifs and buts. Why are the Taliban apologists using ifs and buts? It's time to call a spade a spade without any hesitation.
It is high time that all the religious leaders declare these Jahilan (so called Taliban) as Non-Muslims.
Of course imran khan condemns drone strikes.
@Khan
By the way nations out cry for Malala was or is not because she's Pushtun But because she is a Pakistani girl n people who commited or involve should be brought to book. 2ndly, which so called religious party or parties you were referring? Please go n read backgrounds of them basically they deserve to be banned altogether, faith was n is ones own property, it does not belong to terrorist, thugs, looters, savages, slaving women n what not...read read read it would be useful.
@Khan
Appreciate your sense of humor, blaming others for ones own backwardness doesn't provide ground for continuity nor feeling sorry for one self resolve issues on hand. Read n try to understand what's written n try to do self analysis rather go in arguments.
Malala was targeted for studying. That is an independent regressive agenda of Taliban to keep women subjugated and uneducated. She wasn't targeted due to drone strikes or the US led war. To play this game of morally equating the two really shows what these mullahs are all about. Drone strikes which result in some innocent being killed along with terrorists happen because the pakistani establishment refuses to take targeted action against the terrorists on the ground. If you claim sovereignty over a piece of land then to enforce the rule of law and removal of international terrorists from that land is your responsibility. You can't claim sovereignty on paper when you don't even try to enforce law and order there. If you're my neighbour and choose to breed mosquitoes in your premises and refuse to remove the health hazard for all in the name of sovereignty someone will have to enter your house to remove the problem.
we condemn drone attacks, but who will condemn those who are supporting taliban, supporting dectator and supports all those unconstitional forces who come from the back door. Why you were a part of the government who allow america to start drones on triable areas.
We gave the license to talabal to kill our countrymen when we joined the hands of US to attack afghanistan illegaly & immorally. The US (father of terrorism) has made everyone terrorist. If talaiban are barbaric then us is master of barbarism. There should be no difference when treating a barbaric nature. The rule is simple, the more powerfull is more barbaric and impatient.
Everyones knows that drones are killing more innocents then terrorist but out politicians and our media has no problem with that. they have just made it a normal daily news but they will never make a 36 hour continuous followup news on those killings and there will be no prayers held in miniter house or any school, we all are just used to it. But now in malala case every politician & media man has to show the anger against talibal becuase if they dont do this US will call them the talibans friend.
Sick in Brain,,,Sick in thinking................U won't let people live..u won't let them survive... u and ur hypocratic puppets..using name of religion to do ur politics. God help u all.
Coward Talibans, i hope whole world launches drones on taliban and kills em like rats.
The present government,senators,parliamentarians and opposition parties are good enough to condemn and protest and passing the condemning resolutions against the drones' attacks but only verbally without taking any solid,authentic and practical steps to control/stop drones' strikes on Pakistani tribal areas.....
Sincere condemnation is done at the spur of the moment and by heart. Don't condemn Mulla Diesel. No one is requesting you. People know your reality. Your ifs and buts are a sure sign of "Munafiqat" and by these tactics you want to release pressure from your barbarian friends. As far as the bombing of mosques is concerned what to speak of the Muslims even the Christians, Hindus and Jews condemn them. But who is bombing them? Your friends, the savage Talibaan. Moreover, don't you remember what the Prophet(PBUH) said about the sanctity of human life. "O, Kaaba you are very dear to me but the life of a human being is more sacrosanct than you". In the end a question arises as to why he has talked about the Pashtun tradition and avoided talking about the golden universal Islamic principles.
As a westerner, I am surprised to read so many comments in support of the drone strikes. I understand wanting to get rid of the extremists who terrorize people into obeying their restrictive religious practices, but do you think the drones attacks have been successful in undercutting their power or are the strikes, with the civilian deaths they cause, actually aiding and helping to recruit more extremists? Another thing that I don't understand is connecting the drone protests with zionists. Code Pink, the American activist group that participated in the protest march, is very pro-Palestinian.
Drones kill children just like Malala you idiots just because you can associate a picture with a victim doesn't mean they don't exist. I bet most of you didn't even know who Malala was before this just angry because everyone else is angry.
Malala, Aafia, Shumaila, droned children, missing persons of Balochistan are all victims of WAR ON TERROR. We need to change our foreign policies based on a win win situation.
@Anum: Sure they do. And as parents we grieve when we hear of any child suffering. It is our responsibility to behave responsibly and get out of this Jihad and war mongering mentality that can only bring in misery and suffering to our children
Salalah and Malala I think this man is trivialising this atrocity
If Moulana Sb is even one-tenth as brave as Malala then he should openly state that he stands with the Talibans and stop issuing these conditional statements of condemnation. Such statements are no more than statements of excuse for justifying this heinous crime. Talibans get hit by drones because they have chosen to go to war. They say it themselves. Unfortunately for the civilians who lose their lives and property in this war mongering, they (Talibans) have chosen to fight this war from their compounds rather than in an open battlefield. By doing so they put these civilian lives at risk. Having said that, most of the 40,000 or so casualties in this war that we talk about have been caused not by drones, but by these terrorist Talibans blowing up mosques, schools and market places.
This country lost its sovereignty when it allowed its so called non state actors to go to war with other nations in the name of Jihad. How can anyone who has chosen to go to war himself complain about suffering damage in that war. If the state of Pakistan wants to avoid being totally ruined in this senseless war then it should unambiguously disassociate itself from these war mongerers. Moulana and Imran Khan and few others like them are happy to call the war in Afghanistan a Jihad, implying that as Muslims we should support and join this war, but when the enemy drone comes and hits them they cry foul. It is these people who have dragged this country into war. Unfortunately, the state of Pakistan till today remains confused and undecided where it stands. This confusion is taking a huge toll in every which way.
What pashtun tradition is diesel talking about. Fighting like savages, suppressing women, staying illiterate, and smuggling.
@KR:
there already are fatwas calling them 'kharijis' and disavowing all of their actions from anything to do with islam. the state needs to respond though. the Shariah is very clear about how to deal with miscreants and those who fight the state. as muslims, we should still uphold our values based on how our Prophet (pbuh) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) dealt with situations. Abu Bakr (ra) told those who didnt pay tax that he would fight them if they refused to obey the state. here we have individuals beheading our soldiers and we have individuals happy to think that we can negotiate with them. you can only negotiate with individuals who are cornered and not in a position of power, and those who have some integrity and honor. does anyone think the taliban have even an ounce of that?
@Amir:
Dude honestly, are you an ostrich? I'm Pukhton please elaborate and enlighten us with your point further, and Malala is Pukhtana too along with all gazillions of people who vote a secularist party like ANP & PPP against religious parties.
If you're referring to people in tribal areas .. lets not forget they're living in old ages because OUR leaders including generals who despite having full power willingly ignored their development or providing them any educational facilities in all tribal areas. Next time think what you're going to speak on an open forum like this.
It is said: every thing that happen, happen for a good reason. now we can see the true face of every one.
Analyze this on macro level how we are politicizing every issue if its contempt blasphemy condemnation despite knowing this is a Muslim country and Islam is our religion.
Sounds like a very half-hearted condemnation.
There's no equivalence you fatuous and a rather poor specimen of humanity. Here's an innocent young girl while the drones are targeting your murderous, terrorist friends in FATA.
Who cares if you condemn it or not. The question is are you with Taliban or with Malala?
We should not condemn Drone attacks. A sane mind will definitely support it.
hmm....well, it seems like the drones are the only thing actually eleminating these extremist scum who are responsible for the attack on Malala, and so many other innocent people.
If Pakistan would actually declare all-out war again these extremists, and gather together their army and send a military operation to eliminate them, then the US wouldn't need to use drones. NEWS FLASH people - you are NEVER going to be able to negotiate peace with them. They won't settle for anything less than their demands. Total elimination is the only course of action. If Pakistan would quite sitting around twittling their thumbs and not fighting these extremists, Pakistan has no peace in its future.
moulana, please compare movie "innocence of muslims" with killing the innocent girl.
Maulana's tame condemnation is not very dissimilar from the on-the-surface-bold fatwa by the Barelvi ulema yesterday, which was great to read until I ran into the part of fatwa bringing America into the matter. The maulana and the ulema of Sunni Ittehad Council are examples of the confusion that permeates the society so deeply. Why can't we have the courage and moral clarity to issue an outright no-ifs-and-buts sort statement?
there hav been more bombings in mosques by Taliban than any other kind of strike.... Molana's comments are simply disgusting and unacceptable......
He seems to be short of diesel...........USA need to refuel him:)
Maulana Fazlur Rehman brings up a good point: if you're going to condemn drone strikes whose purpose is to counter Islamic militarism then you yourself are giving such militarism a thumbs-up. Therefore, you should be endorsing the attack on Malala and other little girls with similar aspirations.
Clearly, Pakistanis are confused to be condemning both the drone attacks and the Malala attack. Yemen and Somalia, by contrast, are not confused and endorse drone attacks on Al Qaeda and its allies. Is it a coincidence that the War Against Terror is more successful in those countries than it is in Pakistan?
His statement should clarify how he is trying to confuse the Pakistanis condemning and agitating against criminal Taliban's attack on an innocent child.
He is angry on altaf hussain...
Maulvi sahib, if you support and protect criminals and do nothing against them, then someone else will be forced to take action. If you want the drone attacks to stop then go out and take care of the Taliban.
You do not condem the attack on Ms Malala but you argue over it. You are no better then the ones sending the drones.
This is like saying we will condemn murders (as a crime) only is other people condemn dacoity. I mean there is no causal relation between the two (ignoring dacoties which lead to murders or vice versa). similary there is no causal relation between drone strikes and malala's shooting. It is because of drones actually that there has been only one Malala. God knows how many Malalas would have been there if drones are not used to systematically eliminate Taliban
then donn
t let the taliban to use this area as a launching pad to attack on neighbouring countries and rest of the world.You must be goofy if you think that you do what ever you wanna do and rest of the world wonn
t take any action against you. If you realy wanna stop drones then help out the pak army to flush out these animals from the Pakistan.We dont need your pretentious and falsifying slogans. Go with your students and followers to Afghanistan and fight with US forces if you are brave. By attacking children and women, the religious mentality you have been nurturing, discloses your lack of religiosity and cowardice.
I condemn Maulana Fazlur Rehman. we don't need your half hearted condemnation maulana sahab. why do pakistani people keep voting for such people? wake up pakistanis
'We condemn Malala attack, but who will condemn drone strikes?'
With the help of "but" Maulana Sahib wants to diver the attention of Pakistanis who for the first time are unanimously against the Taliban
Too little too late and too half hearted by the Taliban apologist. The fanatic Whabi terrorists are targetting little innocent girls and he is making excuses!
Maluana's reply to Altaf Hussain
'We condemn Malala attack, but who will condemn drone strikes?' With the help of "but" Mulana sahib wants to divert attention of Pakistanis who are for the first time unanimously angry towards Taliban
Who is bigger enemy Taliban or USA. I think Taliban, so just when Soviet was a bigger enemy taliban took help of USA. We should take help of USA to destroy Taliban.
Looks like rest of the National Useless Assembly is waking up.
Fazalur Rehman only unconditional condemnation is acceptable. Drones are separate matter and can be tackled separately. No where did Taliban said they attacked Malala bcuz of drones. We don't want your conditional condementation
what is the connection between a school girl who wishes to attend school or the Drone strikes.
When IMRAN KHAN condemned drones along with foreign human right activists, u call them jewish agent... Shame on you.....im smelling Diesal here
