Improving security: CCTV to be installed in train stations

The government has allocated Rs23 billion in the 2012-13 budget for rehabilitation and upgrading of infrastructure.

ISLAMABAD: In order to improve safety standards at railway stations in the country, Pakistan Railways plans to install CCTV cameras, metal detectors and scanners in some major railway stations.

A railway official said that the CCTV cameras will assist the security personnel in monitoring the movement of suspicious people and help thwart terror activities.

The cameras would be connected to a computer room at the railway station that would also help authorities take action against violators of the ban on smoking. Replying to a question, he said, all reliable locomotives are being used only for passenger operations in order to improve punctuality and performance.

The government has allocated Rs23 billion in the 2012-13 budget for rehabilitation and upgrading of infrastructure and acquisition of rolling stock in order to improve service delivery for the convenience of the travelling public.
