ISLAMABAD:

The whirring of generators at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters in G-6/2 has stopped, at least for now.

The civic agency has paid its outstanding electricity bills to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to restore electricity.

IESCO had cut off power at the CDA headquarters last month due to non-payment of dues, but this week the civic agency paid Rs15 million to IESCO and got electricity restored.

The CDA had been powering the two buildings at its headquarters with three diesel generators since early September.

The daily fuel cost to run the generators was around Rs150,000. Earlier in May, IESCO had disconnected the civic agency’s power after the agency’s unpaid dues went above Rs650 million.

The CDA had, in turn, served notices to IESCO back then, claiming that the company owed Rs2.5 billion in property taxes, municipal services and other fees to the civic body.

The electricity was restored in June after the two parties reached an agreement.
