ISLAMABAD:

Investigators probing the case of a man who died in police custody arrested three more suspects on Wednesday.

The suspects are the bodyguard, driver and operator of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Khalil Ahmed, a suspect in the case who was serving as the sub divisional police officer when the incident took place. The main suspect, an assistant sub inspector (ASI), was arrested earlier.

The fresh suspects - constables Muhammad Mudassir, Muhammad Abbas and Muhammad Zahid - were produced before the court, which handed them over to the police on remand for three days.

A police official close to the investigations said that the suspects were arrested following a statement given by the ASI. The ASP, he added, was on interim bail and would be arrested once it expires. On September 29, Saadat Ali, 32, died of heart failure after he was allegedly tortured while he was in custody of the Sabzi Mandi police.
