Monitoring progress: WAPDA told to hasten Kachhi Project

Ashraf expresses hope that canal would become operational, provide water for irrigation before the next sowing season

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf stated that the timely completion of Kachhi Canal Project will underscore the commitment of the government to give priority to development projects in Balochistan. These remarks came from the PM in a briefing by the Ministry of Water and Power held at the PM’s residence. During the meeting, held to review the progress of work on the Kachhi Canal, PM Ashraf directed the chairman of the Water and Power Board Authority (WAPDA) to gear up efforts to expeditiously complete the project and also directed the ministry of finance to ensure the release of funds so that the project is completed on time. Water and Power Secretary Nargis Sethi briefed the meeting that she would personally take up the matter and visit the area to monitor the progress in work. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the canal would become operational and provide water for irrigation before the next sowing season.
