Disgruntled client sues shoe shop

Seeks Rs30,000 in damages for not repairing shoes.

A consumer court on Monday issued notice to a branch manager of Starlet Shoes for November 10 in a suit seeking damages of Rs30,000 from the store for allegedly selling substandard shoes.

Petitioner Abid Ali submitted that he had bought a pair of shoes from Starlet Shoes in DHA’s Y Block on March 28.

He said that the branch manager had assured him that the shoes were durable, but they had been damaged in a few weeks.

He sent the pair to the respondent on June 26 for repair, with the understanding that they would be returned by July 12.

He said that the respondent still hadn’t returned the shoes, nor reimbursed him. Ali said that he had served a legal notice on the respondent on September 14, but he had ignored it.

He asked the court to award him Rs30,000 in damages and “mental agony”. Muhammad Imran, the branch manager, told The Express Tribune that he had contacted Ali and told him to pick up his repaired shoes, but he had still gone to court. He said that he would try to “accommodate” Ali.
