Football: WAPDA through to women’s event final

KARACHI: Defending champions Young Rising Star FC and Wapda booked their place in the final of the 8th National Women’s Football Championship that will take place tomorrow. Young Rising Star FC defeated Balochistan United FC 1-0 in the first semi-final, while Wapda overcame Islamabad 2-1 in the other last-four fixture. Balochistan United displayed an impressive performance and kept Young Rising Star FC at bay. Asmara scored the defending champions’ only goal in the 43rd minute. Meanwhile, Wapda conceded a goal in the 15th minute as Islamabad’s Emaan found the opening she had been looking for. Rafia scored the equaliser in the 37th minute, while Sheeka put her side ahead in the 39th minute. Islamabad and Balochistan United FC will clash in the third-place playoff today.
