There is a need for opening more universities in the Bahawalpur division as the Islamia University alone cannot meet the requirements of the increasing number of students now pursuing higher education. Cholistan Development Council Executive Director Farooque Khan said this in a statement on Friday.
He said opening new universities in Bahawalpur division’s districts Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar was the need of the hour instead of establishing more IUB campuses.
He said many were deprived of higher education in Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan due to insufficient facilities.
He said the 18th Amendment had made education a provincial government subject. He said the Government Sadique Girls Degree College be upgraded to a university and a Danish school established in the area. There must also be more primary, middle and high schools in the division, he said.
