MULTAN: Manga Colony residents beat a Multan Electricity Power Supply Company (Mepco) team with batons after they disconnected power supply to a house on Thursday.

Hydro Union Zonal Chairman Chaudhry Khalid and Secretary Sheikh Imran addressed the protesters on the occasion and said the government, administration and police had failed to provide security to Mepco workers. According to union sources, a four-member Mepco team disconnected the power supply to the house of Sanwal Shah for non-payment of bills. Dozens of people led by Sanwal Shah, Tanveer Shah, Jehangir Shah and Charagh Shah chased the team and attacked Mepco’s sub-divisional office in Qasimpur Colony. They beat the Mepco workers with batons and snatched the removed meters. Mepco employees also showered stones on the protesters, causing head injuries to a youth.

Talking to the media, the protesters said the Mepco team had not only removed their electricity meters but also misbehaved with them.
