KARACHI:

The Crime Investigation Department claimed to have arrested two members of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan on Tuesday.

According to CID SSP Fayyaz Khan, department officials conducted raids at Maripur and Federal Capital Area after receiving a tip-off and arrested two alleged TTP members, Shah Alam Mehsud and Sadiq Mehsud. A hand grenade, a cab and three pistols were found in their possession.

According to Khan, the suspects confessed to their involvement in different incidents of target killings, extortions and robberies in Karachi.

They informed the police that they belong to the Hakeemullah Mehsud group and have been living in the city for the last three years. The SSP told The Express Tribune that the detainees and their accomplices collected extortion money from industrial areas, such as Federal B Industrial Area, New Karachi and SITE, to generate funds for the TTP leaders in tribal areas. The information provided by the suspects about their network could not be disclosed, said Khan, as it could compromise the ongoing investigation. Cases have been registered against the two men and raids are being conducted to arrest their accomplices.
