In an effort to standardise education, the provincial cabinet approved the Private Schools Regulatory Authority bill-2012.
Briefing journalists after the provincial government meeting on Monday, provincial spokesperson Mian Iftikhar Hussain said there would be a 13-member body headed by the provincial education minister to look after the affairs of private schools. This authority will monitor registration, curriculum, co-curricular activities and tuition fee in the province.
Under the Private Schools Regulatory Authority bill-2012, the body would also supervise educational standard of teaching staff and their salaries.
“Those private schools and colleges not registered with the authority will be fined up to Rs200,000 or a year of imprisonment, or both,” Mian Iftikhar added. He said the owners of unregistered private primary schools will pay up to Rs50,000 fine or bear six months in jail or both.
The provincial spokesperson said the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has suggested amendments in the provincial judicial rules 2001 through which powers of appointment of judicial officers would be taken from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission and delegated to the Provincial Judicial Selection Board.
He added that a committee has been formed to look into the amendments suggested by the PHC into the provincial judicial rules 2001 and to present its report before the provincial cabinet.
