BAHAWALPUR:

The Livestock Department on Saturday organised a buffalo milking contest and donkey cart race as a part of the Youth Festival 2012.

The buffalo milking contest was held at the Civil Veterinary Hospital where Abdul Ghaffar’s buffalo which gave 12.43 litres of milk was declared the winner.

The second prize went to Abid Ali’s buffalo which gave 11.09 litres of milk while Abdul Qayyum’s buffalo came third giving 11.08 litres of milk.

Ghaffar told The Express Tribune that he treated his buffalo like his children.

“I take her to the fields to graze and bring her to the veterinary clinic for regular checkups.”

He said he fed the buffalo well and took her to the canal for a daily bath.

District Livestock Officers Dr Yaqoob Anjum, Dr Shafaat and Dr Arshad Hussain said an economic revolution could be brought about by promoting livestock farming.

District Livestock Officers  said the government was taking appropriate steps to improve livestock breeds.
