Pakistan Heart Society’s Larkana chapter and Chandka Medical College’s (CMC) cardiology department jointly organised an awareness walk on Thursday to celebrate World Heart Day, which has the theme ‘One World, One Home, One Heart’.
The participants gathered at CMC hospital from where they marched through the city’s main streets with banners which bore slogans against heart disease. They were led by speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuro, the head of CMC’s department of cardiology, Prof. Saeed Ahmed Sangi, and the colllege’s principal, Prof. Assadullah Mahar.
The march ended at the medical institution’s pediatric surgery department. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the major causes of death across the globe, killing 17.3 million people each year. Risk factors for heart diseases include high levels of blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose as well as smoking, obesity and a lack of exercise.
