LAHORE:

A consumer court on Friday issued a notice to the proprietor of a catering company in a Rs10 million suit for failing to deliver biryani in time for a Ramazan iftar.

The notice was issued for October 15.

Petitioner Tahseen Rehman says he had invited his friends and relatives over for an iftar dinner on Ramazan 27 and had ordered a daig of biryani from Gourmet Catering Company. He said he had paid the company Rs6,000 in advance.

Rehman says he had checked his order with the bakery twice and was assured the food would be delivered on time. But it wasn’t. He says the company’s failure to deliver food caused him great embarrassment. The guests left after waiting for two hours after iftar, which, he said, was humiliating.

Muhammad Adnan, the manager of the branch where the order was placed, said that there had been a 30-minute delay in delivering the biryani. He said the petitioner had then refused to take the food.
