LAHORE:

A Punjab government committee headed by Senator Ishaq Dar to discuss a new service structure modalities for doctors has not met for the last three weeks.

An emergency meeting of the Allama Iqbal Medical College Academic Council was held on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of a YDA strike. The meeting was chaired by AIMC Principal Professor Mehmood Shaukat.

The council proposed that a roll call be taken in the morning and the names of doctors not attending their units be reported to the principal.

Jinnah Hospital chapter YDA President Dr Javed Aheer said: “The Academic Council meeting called to discuss the situation arising from a doctors’ strike shows that the government does not want the talks to be successful.”

Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said most of the doctors’ demands had already been agreed upon. He said a meeting with the doctors would be held soon.
